Timbertech Decking Delamination
I installed a new deck using Timbertech decking in late June of 2014.
The decking is composed a composite core, with a separate color and texture layer that is laminated around that core.
In a short time the color and texture layer of the decking started to delaminate from the core. The delamination was substantial in a couple of locations, but was also appearing on many of the planks.
This is not an isolated case. See Composite Decking Reviews Blog
I contacted the manufacturer, and they responded that the delamination was not covered by their 25 year warranty.
The delamination has continued to get worse and affect more boards.
Cut off ends of deck boards stored inside and out of the weather do not exhibit any delamination, and it may be exposure to rain, weather, and or freezing and thawing, may be the cause. The installation instructions do not state that the cut ends need to be sealed, and the FAQ says it should not be painted.
